General questions
Before buying a fully automatic coffee machine, many questions arise: Which machine should I buy, how much should I spend and why is a quiet coffee machine important at all? So before we look at each model in detail, let’s answer the most common questions.
Why buy a quiet coffee maker?
There are many reasons to get a quiet automatic coffee maker. In addition to the pure range of functions, more and more users are also interested in the machine’s volume. The number of people who want a quiet coffee maker has increased significantly in recent years. The reason for this is primarily the relocation of the job to one’s own 4 walls. As more and more businesses move to a home office arrangement, users want quiet coffee machines at home. Not only to be able to concentrate better on work, but also to spare the nerves of the housemates. The volume of the coffee machine can be particularly high when grinding the beans. You want to avoid noises that are too loud, especially during a meeting, a concentration period or in the early morning hours.
So it’s the right decision to think about which automatic coffee machines make coffee particularly quietly beforehand.
At what point is a fully automatic coffee machine considered quiet?
In addition to personal perception of when a coffee machine is noisy, there is clear scientific data. We find noises above a volume of 60 decibels annoying in the long run. Above this volume, the body releases stress hormones called cortisol and adrenaline. For example, vacuum cleaners or a washing machine with a volume of 80 decibels or more begin to be annoying. Since the grinding process in a coffee machine usually takes only a few seconds, we humans can therefore exceed the aforementioned threshold of 60 decibels for this brief moment. Nevertheless, the selected coffee maker should ideally remain below 70 decibels. All of the models presented here have reached this threshold.
How much money should I spend?
Of course, this question cannot be answered in a blanket manner. In general, however, the more budget available, the higher the quality of the coffee machine. Especially the recommended and very quiet top model from Siemens costs almost 1000€. However, the buyer gets a high-quality coffee machine with better features, such as an integrated milk container and a very high-quality grinder, in return. Experience has shown that these models are usually also more durable, as the grinder itself is often the sticking point for replacement. This is often more wear-free at higher prices.
The following therefore applies to fully automatic coffee machines: As a rule, a higher price is also reflected in a better quality of workmanship and is therefore easier on the wallet in the long run.
The best list
Here we present the quietest fully automatic coffee machines in detail. Not only the volume was decisive for our comparison, but also the features of each individual machine.
Place 1: Siemens EQ.9 s300
The Siemens EQ.9 takes first place among the quiet automatic coffee machines. S300. Not only is it the quietest coffee maker in the test, but it’s also the machine with the most features and the best build quality.
Thus, the Siemens fully automatic coffee machine not only convinces with its pleasant maximum volume of approx. 66dB, but also with many other features. We would like to highlight the following:
- High quality workmanship
- integrated milk tank removable
- Large selection of beverages, including espresso, latte macchiato or creamy cappuccino, for example
- up to 6 profiles can be stored (e.g. coffee strength)
- easy cleaning of the milk foamer by automatic steam cleaning
- patented superSilent system
Even though the second and third place finishers are almost on the same level in terms of volume, the equipment features clearly outweigh the Siemens machine.
2nd place: Miele CM 5310 Silence
The Miele fully automatic coffee machine is close on the heels of the first-placed model. There are only minimal differences in the volume measurement and so we can say that the Miele CM 5310 Silence also gets a maximum of 66 dB loud when grinding beans. The Miele can also hold a candle to the Siemens in terms of price. However, as a user of this coffee maker, you have to make concessions in terms of workmanship and functionality. Nevertheless, on board are the following important things:
- integrated milk container
- Jug function to fill several cups in succession
- ComfortClean facilitates cleaning
- Large selection of beverages, including espresso, latte macchiato or creamy cappuccino, for example
The jug function in particular is an interesting addition, especially if you don’t drink coffee alone and want to supply your roommates or colleagues directly.
3rd place: Melitta Purista F 230-102
The Melitta coffee machine does not have to hide in terms of noise level or price. The machine is just one decibel louder when grinding the beans, and at the same time it is a whopping 600€ cheaper than our comparison winner. The user has to accept compromises in terms of features and build quality. What we still find good about the machine:
- ultra slim design
- simple cleaning system
- simple operation without many bells and whistles
- Profiles storable
If you have a limited budget but still don’t want to miss out on good coffee, you’re in good hands with Melitta. However, one or the other smear must be made. Especially when it comes to preparing various coffee specialties.
Conclusion
There is a fully automatic coffee machine for every budget, which can do its job without much noise. Particularly in the case of inexpensive models, some compromises have to be accepted. Nevertheless, our 3rd place knows how to impress every frahling lover with a solid feature set and a pleasant volume of under 70 dB. You don’t even have to put 400€ on the table. However, if you value a higher build quality and the preparation of a variety of different coffee specialties, you should take a closer look at our 1st or 2nd place in the comparison.
In any case, with one of these three machines, you’ll find the peace of mind you’re looking for in the morning or at work. The low noise level characterizes all three of our fully automatic coffee machines presented here.
